DONE! By noon today I walked the last 20KM. Most of the front of the walk through beautiful eucalyptus forests. The main event was entering the old city in Santiago and into the big square through a tunnel. As soon as you do that you can see the complexity of the cathedral and all the huge buildings around it.
It was great to meet up with some of the people who became walking friends along the way. Some folks I met have already finished and there are a few right behind finishing in the next day or two. They become your Camino family that you keep seeing at different times. When someone takes a rest day, it gets them off your schedule and the reverse happens.
So the final numbers are:
Total distance: 805 KM
Total Steps: 1,104,789
Total Ascend: 13495 M
Although the numbers are part of the story, they tell you what I did, it does not tell you why I did it nor what else was going on. It documents the physical external journey, what it does not tell you is about the internal odyssey I went on, and there lies the biggest accomplishments. It will take other future forms to explain what I mean. I hope to put a presentation together to be able to share what I have learned for any of you who were so kind to follow my adventure. I thank you all for the kind emails snd texts during the trip. It was encouragement and support I found very valuable, specially when the feet did not feel like moving.
Change in plans. I was to take a tour bus tomorrow to the Coast of Death, Finisterre and Muxia. It will be raining a lot over the few days so I decided to go to Madrid one day earlier than planned AND today I bought a ticket to the ROLLING STONES concert in Madrid this Wednesday before I fly home on Friday. Gift to myself for finishing:)
