Day 21 - Bercianos to Mansilla Mayor

Another long day crossing the Meseta, very flat but still 30KM. I did 20 of them in sandals as I had two blisters in my heels that needed to heal. So happy with my Keens sandals. I am finding that days when the scenery is boring, the deeper the reflection process when I am walking alone, today was one of those days. I found to be in a creative mood designing pictures that I could use to explaining to others how and why this type of camino self retreat works in our minds (at least in mine) and why I am finding it so powerful. I always believed in personal retreats and have done a few on my own, this is the master class in self retreat of sorts even though you interact with others on the trail, they seem to always show up when you need to study another aspect of your life. Tomorrow and Sunday is Leon, the city I have been most looking forward to and a chance to rest the feet before I start walking into the mountains in a few days, I have yet to reach the highest elevation. Will give more details on this later. Will also update the Kms statistics. Less than 330 to go, so approx 470 covered.

I walked alone all day, when I went to eat at the only bar/restaurant in town I met three US ladies from Texas, West Virginia and Seattle. Photo below. This happens all the time, people are totally relaxed, they see you alone they invite you to join and it is a big part of what happens here. You end having deep conversations with strangers. It was a lot very time and it turns out two of them staying at the same place as me in Leon. You then keep bumping into people you met before and it’s like you known them a long time.
