Today it was short and steep. Only 12 Km and a change in elevation from 600Meters to 1300M, a rise of 700 (by comparison my first day on the trip it was a 740M gain to Orisson to start the crossing of the Pyrenees). Like then, spectacular views at times. At times the path in the forest. Luckily I avoided the rain until the last hour or so. By the time I reached O’Cebreiro it was coming down heavy. the temperature kept dropping but it was comfortable with two layers plus the rain coat.
Just before O’Cebreiro, I crossed into Galicia, the last region of the journey. The owner of the Casa Rural (Rural home, a private home with 3 rooms for rent) came to get me in O’Cebreiro (4Km outside) and he will drive me back in the morning so I can restart my Camino from there. I will get some additional photos then of the beautiful little mountain town. I only saw the church and the restaurant earlier today.
It was a strenuous walk up, most of the time you had to concentrate on your step, keeping a slow pace for the breathing to be comfortable and enjoying the scenery.
Today is May 23 and I started walking April 23, it was an emotional realization that both dates were so challenging on the body & mind and at the same time so much natural beauty at two ends of Spain and France. Only 7 days of walking left to reach Santiago de Compostela.
