Day 32 - O’Cebreiro to Tricastela

A 18Km walk mostly in the rain, mostly downhill, at times steep. Through beautiful forest paths and once in a while when the clouds broke a bit, some great scenery. Most of the time the clouds were below us.

A great lentil soup for lunch and an arroz con leche(rice pudding) kept my friend LJ and I energized for the trek. It was very nice to meet up again with my friend from NY state. We met on day 1 and together with his wife Carole we crossed the Pyrenees together exactly before me nth ago. Unfortunately Carole had a bad fall and did not walk the last few days, she is a trooper and plans to start walking again tomorrow to finish the last 140Km.

In Galicia now so many subtle differences from the rest of Spain start to emerge, menus as a first, a whole new set of local dishes.

This morning it was 4C first thing. Called for the three layers, rain gear both jacket and pants. Warmed up a bit once we went below the clouds.

The morrow Sarria is the destination. Many pilgrims start their Camino in Sarria as it is 104Km from Santiago and the Catholic Church requires that a minimum of 100 consecutive km be walked by pilgrims to qualify to receive the Compostela certificate of completion at the cathedral in Santiago. For children in Spain it is still mothers ng they are expected to complete in high school and goes on their cv.
